HIPS

Surgical procedures offered include the latest techniques in arthroscopic (keyhole) and open hip surgery. These include the treatment of labral tears, femoro-acetabular impingement, gluteal tendon tears and direct anterior muscle sparing hip replacements, as well as hip revision surgery. 

KNEES

All of the latest techniques in knee arthroscopy are available. Mr van Niekerk regularly performs anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, as well as undertaking treatment and surgery for multi-ligament knee injuries. He performs knee replacements and revision knee replacement surgery with the aid of computer navigation.

SHOULDERS

Surgical techniques available include all aspects of keyhole rotator cuff surgery including superior capsular reconstructions.  Mr van Niekerk also performs specialised shoulder stabilizations for instability and shoulder replacement surgery.

Welcome to this website which is intended as a resource for conditions, treatments and rehabilitation practices commonly seen and used by me in my practice as an orthopaedic surgeon in Northland, New Zealand.  My primary speciality involves procedures around the hip, knee and shoulder.  This website aims to hopefully answer some of the more common questions asked by patients pre and post-surgery and will hopefully make your journey to recovery easier.

Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre is conveniently situated in Kensington, Whangarei, and is a purpose-built facility that includes a state-of-the-art theatre for day stay procedures.  Just across the road is Kensington hospital where I undertake bigger cases requiring in-patient stays of variable lengths. TRG imaging is also just a few doors away.
